Well soldiers, we got the opportunity to speak with Cauldron previously, and hopefully you all read it. If not you can catch up here.
I've recently gotten to speak with a representative from Activision regarding a few more of those juicy tidbits that all of us have been wondering about. Previously we talked about some technical details, but read on to find out about some of the things that we have been discussing in these very forums.
SOFPB: The item description available at EB Games does not feature the gametype Infiltration. This was a widely popular gametype in Soldier Of Fortune 2. Will it be returning in Soldier Of Fortune: Payback?
Activision: Not at the release of the game. There will be death match, team death match, elimination, team elimination, capture the flag and demolition.
SOFPB: Will there be an SDK (development kit) or modding tools provided to the community for Soldier Of Fortune: Payback?
Activision There will most likely be a release of the editor post-launch so fans can create their own mods.
SOFPB: Will there be a single or multiplayer demo in the coming weeks?
Activision No plans at the moment to release a demo.
SOFPB: Will Soldier Of Fortune (PC) feature an Anti-Cheat such as PunkBuster?
Activision: No, they are not using PunkBuster at the moment.
SOFPB: I want to clarify that answer by asking if PunkBuster is
planned at a later time, or is there a plan to provide a different
Anti-Cheat solution?
Activision: At the present time, there is no anti-cheat support planned,
but we will be monitoring the multiplayer gameplay from day 1 and if
people seem to be taking advantage of the systems, then we will look
into a proper solution.
Well there you have it SOF'rs. Some answers to a few of the questions that we have been really burning to know about. Let's give a big thanks to our Activision PR guys Corey and Rob for their support of the community by giving us some insight into the game.
OK guys, time for me to go into (short and sweet) 'editorial mode'. The PC side of the camp here might be a little (ok alot) concerned about the lack of anti-cheat. Some people might be a little put off by Infiltration being MIA from the initial release.
You've basically got a company that will be evaluating the community before they implement PunkBuster (a solution that doesn't work all THAT well to begin with). I can name several games that waited a patch or so before releasing anti-cheat. You guys can tell me I'm wearing the fan-boy merit badge on my Eagle Scout uniform by saying this... but I don't see the news as all that bad. I have seen evidence that Activision and Cauldron are standing by the game AND the community and I know that if there is a need, they will provide a solution.
As far as Infiltration goes, what the devs don't do right away, the modders can handle. And I personally want to see what they have in store for us with this title. Soldier Of Fortune was great, Soldier of Fortune II was fantastic, and I have no doubt in my mind that Soldier Of Fortune: Payback will offer an amazing experience in itself.

are you kidding me? no anti-cheat solution? lol.. sof2 is bad enough right now! i almost guarantee that there is gonna be a hacker within a week of the games release!
